Brand Photography for Local Family-Owned Restaurant
Quickie Too is a vegan cafe in the heart of Tacoma’s hilltop neighborhood, that specializes in vegan comfort food. I was hired to help them build a social media presence, particularly on Instagram, to reach more customers in the Tacoma area. It’s been a fun project to work on and I wanted to share a little bit about it with you.
The first step in this project was a meeting to get to know the owners and understand their business, why they do what they do, what type of food they serve, and who they want to reach.
Then we planned and scheduled a photo shoot to showcase their business. We brought in a group of friends to model for the shoot and prepared all of the restaurant’s signature dishes to serve. We shot enough content to spread over a 3 month period of time in one afternoon.
After shooting and editing the photos, a few more emails back and forth to hone in on Quickie Too’s voice and mission, as well as some practical details, I got to work planning their social media and launching their new Instagram page.
Below is a little preview of how their first 9 grid looks (note that we did have to pivot to show fewer photos of groups inside the restaurant due to Covid-19 related closures that happened right in the midst of this project, so we focused on showing photos of the food instead).
Some of the main points that we’re focusing on in our captions are bridging the gap between non-vegan and vegan eaters, changing the way people think about food, the alternative to killing to eat, being a small family-owned, community-based restaurant, and of course sharing practical announcements about how people can continue ordering takeout from Quickie Too even during the pandemic.
As I write up this blog post we are still in the beginning stages of posting to Quickie Too’s social media, but the response has been amazing already! I received an email from Elizabeth, the owner, the morning after our first post went live that read, “I just wanted to take a minute to let you know the business was off the hook yesterday 😊 We had to shut down Door Dash early! Thanks.”
I hope that by the time this blog post goes live, Quickie Too and all other restaurants in Tacoma will be able to open their doors for in-person dining safely again. In lieu of that, I want to end this post by sharing some of my favorite photos from Quickie Too’s shoot that show people enjoying their food and being served IN the restaurant.
