How to Repurpose your Content

As a busy entrepreneur, you probably struggle to find the time to create enough content and keep up on all the platforms you feel like you should be on. But are you getting all the mileage you could be out of each piece of content you produce? Maybe you don’t need to be creating more content, but you just need to be more strategic about how you use it to promote your brand! In this blog post I am going to walk you through 5 tips for getting the most out of a piece of content, by repurposing it for different platforms.

ContentCreation
  1. First of all, let’s talk about the most versatile type of content you can create: EVERGREEN CONTENT! Evergreen content is the type of content that stays fresh year-round. It’s not seasonal in nature and so it lasts longer. My first tip is to create some really stellar pieces of evergreen content that you can continue to repost during any season. To keep your imagery for this content fresh I would also suggest creating seasonally ambiguous brand photos with lots of neutral tones in them.

  2. Now that we’ve established the type of content you should be creating, I recommend starting with the LONG FORM of this content. For me that is this blog, but for you it could be a YouTube video, podcast, blog, etc. Starting with the most full version of the content makes it easier to distill down for other platforms.

  3. Once you’ve got the long-form written (or recorded), you can break it down to BASICS for sending in an EMAIL CAMPAIGN! This could be done by taking each point and breaking it out into a separate email, or it could be grabbing the outline and pointing people back to your blog to read the full story, etc.

  4. Then you can take it a step further and pull out just an interesting snippet or tip from your long-form and use that for SOCIAL MEDIA content! I like to use these posts to point people to my bio link to read the full post on my website and increase web traffic, boosting my SEO. Keep in mind that if your long-form is a video you can use IGTV to post a longer video and then push a snippet of that over to your Instagram grid or story.

  5. Lastly, don’t forget to make a pin for your content and post it to Pinterest too! The more platforms you can get your content out on, the more eyes will see your work and the better your content will perform!

This is the basic framework that I use when creating content for my brand photography and social media strategy business and it has served me well over the years. There is no way I would have enough time to create different content for each platform and so streamlining and repurposing content has been a lifesaver! I hope these tips help you find a great system for repurposing your content too and that you can start getting the mileage out of your hard work that you deserve!
