What to Wear for Your Fall Brand Photoshoot
I have a couple of standard rules when it comes to picking your outfits for your brand photoshoot. 1. Pick something you feel comfortable in. 2. You can’t go wrong with classics. 3. Neutrals last longer. 4. Don’t forget about the little details like shoes and jewelry. 5. Plan ahead.
These are the rules that almost always apply, but sometimes you don’t want your photos to be seasonally neutral. Sometimes you’re looking for major seasonal vibes so that your imagery feels super relevant at that moment, or so that you can talk about the season you are in and the weather or activities you’ve been experiencing that week. There is definitely a time and place for it and as we are quickly approaching fall, I thought it would be fun to do a Fall what-to-wear edition of my outfit style guide for my personal brand clients!
I will preface this with the fact that I am not a fashionista. I do not necessarily keep up on all the current trends and I don’t aim to, but rather, take more of a classic approach to style from the eyes of a photographer. These are the things that I’ve seen work well for photos over the years and some ideas for you to use as a jumping-off point to making it your own.
1. Layers are your friend.
Start with a t-shirt and layer a sweater, jacket, flannel or shacket over it to take a basic outfit to a cute fall outfit. Layering is not only flattering, but it gives major fall vibes AND it’s so easy to quickly change the top layer for several different outfit variations without ever having to do a full change!
2. Go basic or go home.
I’ll stick by this rule even in my seasonal edition 😅 Jeans and a sweater makes for the best easy fall outfit and it is so versatile in photos too! Whether you stick with a neutral color or go for the burnt orange and mustard yellow to make it extra seasonal is up to you 😉
3. Don’t be afraid to wear the dress.
Dresses aren’t just for summer. They are actually a great transition piece between seasons and into the fall too. I recommend going for a midi or maxi style for more fall vibes instead of the shorter dresses that work so well in warmer weather. To create more variety, pick a dress that you can add jewelry to for a dressier look or add a jean jacket to for a more casual look.
4. Accessorize.
Accessories can change the vibe of your outfit in an instant! Hats are such a fun accessory to add to your brand photoshoot. You can add a beanie to a casual outfit to create a sense of cozy or go for a felt hat if you want to add a little flare to your fall outfits. Another fun fall accessory is a pair of cute boots. Whether you go for some casual Hunters, tall leather boots, or chelsea boots, they will give you a chic fall feel.
