How to Create Content that will Stay Fresh All Year

It’s no debate that content is key to marketing your business online, and content that stays fresh all year is invariably the crown jewel of all! This post is all about how to create this type of content.

Content that lasts no matter what season is called Evergreen Content, after the trees that never lose their green foliage.

What evergreen content is NOT:

  • It is not seasonal.

  • It doesn’t talk about current events.

  • It’s not trending.

A great test to see if your content is evergreen content is to ask yourself, would I (or my readers) still find this content helpful in 3 months? What about 6 months?Or even next year? If the answer to ALL of these questions is yes, then it’s evergreen content!

Evergreen content is a very valuable asset for your business!

Why?

Here are a few reasons why it’s so valuable:

  1. Evergreen content is great for Seach Engine Optimization (SEO) because it’s something that could be searched anytime by your ideal customers and found helpful and relevant.

  2. Evergreen content will save you time by helping you streamline your social media content because it creates a pool of relevant content to pull from and promote any time of year, over and over again!

  3. Evergreen content will also establish your brand as an authority in your industry because it shows your knowledge of subjects and questions that come up often in your area of service.

  4. Evergreen content simply provides the best bang for your buck in the sense that it will be less work for you to create with more value added to your audience due to its timeless nature.

So how do you create evergreen content?

I like to start by creating a list of general topics that I think may be interesting to my ideal clients. Things like tips for small business owners, and guides to successful photoshoots.

From there, I pull out any non-seasonal subject matters that will stay relevant to my audience for a long time. These become the big ideas that I can create evergreen content from.

Next, I brainstorm actual titles and focus areas within those big topics. For instance, in the larger category of tips for small business owners, I may write down titles like, “how to create content that stays fresh all year” or, “how to prepare your brand for launch.”

Then, I outline each piece of content and start writing and fine-tuning my blog post, making sure to double-check my facts, link relevant articles, and include searchable terms.

I finish my posts by formatting them for easy reading and adding some pretty images that catch the attention of the casual scroller.

I suggest working extra hard on these pieces of content to make them the best that they can be in order to get the most traction out of them. These are your core pieces of content that you want to feel confident referring traffic to for a long time to come!

Don’t forget to refresh and optimize your evergreen content!

Plan to revisit evergreen content periodically to update images or any content that does become slightly outdated, in addition to checking any links to make sure they are still current. Refreshing content is an easy way to get it back in front of your ideal clients’ eyes and boost your SEO. I try to revisit my core evergreen content pieces once a year, but there is not necessarily a magic timeframe to do this within, just find what works for you, and don’t forget to come back to it.
