2018 Year in Review
2018 has been quite the year for my little business!
To start with, I got to rent out a studio for the year at Court House Square! It was awesome to have a dedicated space to be creative in, away from home! Although I decided not to renew my lease for 2019, I am so grateful for the year I had there and everything I learned through the process and I look forward to being able to rent or own a studio again in the future!
In addition, this year brought a re-brand and new website for my business! Over the past couple of years I’ve been slowly pivoting from being a jack-of-all-trades photographer to being solely a brand photographer and social media expert, serving businesses that sell everyday luxury products. This year I was able to put this concept into a new brand. In the process I changed my business’s name from Effie’s Photography to doing business under my own name, Effie Gurmeza. Trish over at Mahoney Studio created a beautiful new logo and icons for my brand and Caroline of Garriott Design Co. created this awesome website you are looking at now! I am thrilled with these new developments for my business and to have a clear direction moving forward!
I got to work with some super awesome clients this year; ones that have become friends over the years and ones that are new friends to me. It is a privilege to get to serve some of my favorite brands by creating clean branding imagery for them! I am thankful for every opportunity to work with these types of businesses, especially the ones that are local to my hometown of Tacoma, Washington! Here are just a few of my favorite images that I took this year.
I was published in a magazine for the first time this year! This has been a long term goal of mine that had taken a back burner over and over so I am glad that it finally happened. I was so honored to be selected to photograph an article for Deeply Rooted Magazine! It’s a publication that I have read for years and really respect and enjoy!
Lastly, I can’t not mention something that’s been going on in my personal life that has had a big impact on my business this year. In late spring I found out that we are expecting another baby (and in the fall we found out that it is another boy)! We can’t wait to welcome our little Lars into the world in early 2019! This little bit of news has definitely made me put a few things on the back burner for this year, and I do plan to take the first couple of months slow going into 2019, but I fully anticipate being back up on my feet again in the spring so that I can continue serving brands through creating compelling imagery and social media feeds!
