Favorite Story
Product Photography for Paper Goods and Gift Shop
Brand Overview
Favorite Story, a charming paperie and design studio based in California. They specialize in creating beautiful and functional paper goods, stationery, and gifts that celebrate everyday moments.
Project Objective
To provide ongoing product photography services that help elevate Favorite Story's online brand and showcase new products, allowing the owner to focus on running her business without having to worry about creating imagery around her product too.
Production Challenges
Finding a suitable location for the shoot that would complement the brand's aesthetic and provide the desired ambiance. My client was looking for a cozy setting with deeper color tones than my studio typically provides. In addition, a few of the shots required a bed and a desk that I do not typically have access to, but we couldn’t find all of the elements we wanted in one location.
Creative Process
I ended up utilizing a combination of locations for this shoot. I found an Airbnb that provided a good set for the shots we needed a desk and bed for. Then I shot some in my studio, but not before transforming it into a cozy living space that had pops of my clients brand colors throughout. Not only did I add a throw blanket and pillows to make the livingroom scenes more interesting, I also rigged a way put up curtains to soften up the background windows. Because I don’t normally have curtains this required some creative thinking and the use of a backdrop stand.
“I love them. Love them all! I think I teared up a little. It's funny, when I opened the gallery there was that initial photo of the stack of planners and I thought 'oh, look. Effie's shot planners for someone else before'. Then I realized THEY WERE MY PLANNERS! I'm so used to seeing other people's products in beautiful photos it didn't even occur to me they were mine(!). I think I've been suffering mild photo trauma. They all turned out great. I love the photos in the bedroom with the 5-year journal. Your model peeking from behind the book is so cute. Your models were perfect. And the multi-product photos at the desk turned out great. Where did that marble desk come from? It was perfect! And the curtains in the living room look fantastic. The color was just what it needed. Everything. Perfecto.”
