La Bicicletta

How do you get places?

In 2011 Italians bought more bicycles than cars.  The streets of Italy are lined with them!

Some are new; some are rusted old companions.  Some have vegetable crates wired on them, some have a wicker basket, and others have leather bags attached to the back.

Who rides them? Where do they go?

Every bicycle tells a story.  One carries vegetables to a produce stand at Campo de’ Fiori.  One circles the town of Lucca as a mother takes her child out for a ride. One takes a student to the Galleria dell' Accademia to study Michael Angelo’s David.  One is leaning against the wall of a bakery in the Jewish Ghetto where a young boy left it to run in for biscottini.

What is the rest of the story?
