A year ago yesterday I boarded a plane a flew far, far away from here. A year ago today I landed in Geneve, Switzerland, boarded a train, and traveled another hour to Lausanne. Over the next couple of months I had the opportunity to travel around Switzerland, Italy, Greece and France. I took 22,633 pictures during my travels and have only touched a couple hundred so far. It is my hope that during the anniversary of my trip I will be able to share more of these memories and beautiful sites with you.
The first day this is about all I saw; but a wonderful view, is it not? This was the view from my room on the tip top of the hotel. I had just enough energy to snap a few pictures and email my best friend to tell him I had arrived safely before I tumbled into bed, sad to be half the world away from him, but excited for what the next days and weeks and months held.
The next morning, February 16, 2012, I woke up to this glorious sunrise! I was staying with a dear family in Lausanne who provided me with this room and a wonderful breakfast of assortments of croisants, toast with Nutella, mocha yogurt and coffee, etc. Their family was staying there for a year while Mike taught with the Pepperdine University study abroad program.
While their two young boys, Michael and Jack, were at school, Carolyn took me on a tour of the city. We went to see the cathedrals (their are two of them!), got hot chocolate as thick as pudding and did a little shopping.
The day ended with this beautiful sunset. I stitched this panorama together from my balcony overlooking Lake Geneva, and the alps in the background. Stay posted in the next few weeks for pictures from Geneve, Vevey, Chillon, Gruyere and Broc! I am so excited to share these with you!
